Work with GAICIL

Opportunities

The Global AI Competition & Innovation Lab brings together scholars who study how artificial intelligence reshapes markets, competition and innovation. We are a small team, and we work remotely across countries and institutions.

We look for people who take evidence seriously, write clearly and want their research to inform real decisions. Two openings are currently listed below.

Non-Resident Fellowship

Overview

GAICIL studies how artificial intelligence changes competition, competitiveness and creative destruction. Non-Resident Fellows extend that work. They keep their current positions and contribute to the Lab's research and public debate from wherever they are based.

The fellowship is built around the Fellow's own agenda. We look for people whose questions overlap with ours, and we help turn that overlap into published, cited and usable work.

What you'll do

  • Develop research on the economics, law and policy of AI that fits the Lab's agenda, alone or with GAICIL scholars.
  • Write for GAICIL's research series and blog, from working papers to short analytical pieces.
  • Take part in GAICIL workshops and discussions, and review drafts from colleagues.
  • Where it fits your expertise, help shape the Lab's contributions to public consultations and policy debates.

Who we're looking for

  • A doctorate, or equivalent depth of experience, in economics, law, public policy, computer science or a related field.
  • A record of serious work on competition, innovation, regulation or the economics of technology.
  • Independent judgement and a willingness to defend positions with evidence.
  • Clear writing for both specialist and general readers.

What we offer

  • An affiliation with GAICIL and a place in its network of scholars.
  • Editorial support and a platform for publishing and presenting your work.
  • Exchange with colleagues working on the same questions from different disciplines.

Commitment and location

  • Non-resident and fully remote. You keep your current position.
  • Scope and time commitment are agreed with each Fellow individually.

How to apply

Send a short cover letter describing the work you would pursue as a Fellow, your CV, and one or two writing samples. Email contact@competitioninnovationlab.ai with "Non-Resident Fellowship" in the subject line.

Research Assistant

Overview

Research Assistants work directly with GAICIL scholars on the Lab's studies and publications. The role is a close apprenticeship in research: finding and checking sources, working with data, and helping turn findings into clear writing.

Accuracy is the core of the job. Every claim the Lab publishes should trace back to its source, and Research Assistants are a large part of making sure it does.

What you'll do

  • Run literature reviews on AI, competition policy, innovation and related topics.
  • Collect, clean and analyse data, and prepare tables and figures.
  • Check citations, quotations and references against their original sources.
  • Draft summaries, research notes and background material for GAICIL scholars.

Who we're looking for

  • Current students or recent graduates in economics, law, public policy, data science or a related field.
  • Care for detail and a habit of checking facts at the source.
  • Comfort with academic literature; experience with data tools is a plus.
  • Good written English and the ability to work independently across time zones.

What we offer

  • Direct work with GAICIL scholars on research that is published and used.
  • Mentoring on research methods, writing and the policy process.
  • Exposure to current debates on AI, competition and innovation.

Commitment and location

  • Remote and non-resident.
  • Hours and duration are agreed individually.
